A bug has been detected in Facebook's WhatsApp. It has been reported that hackers have infiltrated our smartphone through the gif files we use most often. It allows access to a device and steals data by sending a malicious GIF file.
According to a researcher nicknamed Awakened, the risk stems from a double-free bug in WhatsApp.
Dual-free vulnerability is a memory corruption anomaly that can disable an app or allow malicious GIF malicious design to gain access to a user's device.
The researcher explains that WhatsApp's gallery view used to create previews for photos, videos and GIFs is flawed.
Facebook has officially acknowledged that it is on WhatsApp 2.19.244. The researcher stressed in his blog that WhatsApp users should update to the latest version of WhatsApp (2.19.244 or higher) to get rid of this error.
