Can you spy on yourself with your smart TV? FBI Alert !!
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday just starting, tons of new smart gadgets, including smart TVs, are available to customers during the holiday season with tons of offers on smartphones. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned consumers to be vigilant as smart TVs can spy on you.
The law enforcement agency notes that it has features such as built-in cameras and microphones that can be easily hacked and hacked. “This allows them to change channels, play and show videos that are inappropriate for your children. In a few awkward situations, they can turn on the camera and microphone of your bedroom TV and silently cyberstock you. Says the FBI.
The FBI also lists some steps you can take to stay safe, the first of which is to train yourself on all the features that your TV offers. To do so, the FBI recommends that you search the Web site for your TV model with the words "microphone", "camera" and "privacy".
The agency recommends changing the Smart TV's default passwords. Customers are also advised to gain technical knowledge to disable microphones and cameras. If you do not have the option to disable the camera on your TV, you can cover it with black tape on the camera.
So before you buy smart TVs, the FBI recommends that TV manufacturers check to see if there is a record for updating TVs with security patches, and to check the TV manufacturer's privacy policy and streaming services.
